St Peter’s Church, Bermuda is the oldest Anglican Church outside the British Isles and the oldest Protestant Church in the New World. Established as the parish church of the Town of St George when Bermuda was settled by the Virginia Company in 1612, people have worshipped on this site for nearly 400 years and have left evidence of their faith in the architecture and decoration of the building. Outside the church in weathered vaults and simple graves lie generations of families, old and young, soldiers, slaves and servants of the British Crown. The passing of time and the tragic effects of war, revolution, yellow fever and disaster at sea are recorded in the churchyard. St Peter’s welcomes thousands of visitors from all over the world and thanks to our dedicated volunteers the church is open Monday to Saturday from 10.00am to 4.00pm. We hope that the glimpses this website offers into the fascinating world of St Peter’s will inspire you to come and visit in person. The Rev’d W David Raths Incumbent |
